Call for Abstracts

SEA members are invited and encouraged to submit abstracts for the 2020 Spring Meeting to be held May 8-10, 2020 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The theme of the 2020 Spring Meeting is: Defining the Path to Workforce Readiness.

Abstract Submission Process

Abstracts submissions will be accepted in one of three categories:

  • Designed Research Studies in Anesthesia Education
  • Curriculum in Anesthesia Education
  • Innovative Idea Lab in Anesthesia Education Workshop

The entire abstract is limited to 400 words. Abstracts pertaining to education are sought in areas such as (but are not limited to):

  • Medical Student education
  • Resident and Fellow education
  • Faculty and Clinician continuing education
  • Faculty evaluation, development
  • Technologic advancements
  • ACGME core competencies
  • ACGME Milestones

You can download the submission guidelines and grading criteria for each abstract category by visiting the abstract submission forms on ProposalSpace.

Important Information for Abstract Submissions

The author(s) MUST submit their abstract through ProposalSpace for consideration. If you submitted an abstract in previous years, you can use your same login information. It is free to create an account in ProposalSpace (just enter your name and email address).

Deadlines

The Committee on Research in Education requests that abstracts be received by Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 11:59 pm (Central Time) so that constructive suggestions may be sent back to the abstract submitter. The Committee expects to notify authors of acceptance/denial by January 10, 2020.

1-Minute Teaser

ALL selected abstracts in the Designed Research Studies in Anesthesia Education and Curriculum in Anesthesia Education categories will be presented as a poster and author(s) should be prepared to present a 1-minute teaser to attendees at the meeting encouraging them to visit your poster. Click here to view a sample of how you can present the 1-minute teaser. Your one-slide teaser will need to be submitted by April 6, 2020.

The Innovative Idea Lab in Anesthesia Education workshop category is designated for educational projects that are in the developmental stage and not yet implemented. If your abstract is accepted, you will be asked to participate in the Idea Lab workshop at the meeting. During the workshop, you will briefly present your abstract to a group of facilitators that will then discuss your project in order to offer any feedback and assistance to help you to move your project to the next steps.

Meeting Registration Fee

All abstract presenters are expected to pay the full SEA registration fee, according to their appropriate registration level (member, non-members, resident, etc.). No discounts will be provided.

Philip Liu Awards for Innovations in Anesthesia Education

Two “Philip Liu Awards for Innovations in Anesthesia Education” will be presented at the SEA Spring Meeting:

  • Philip Liu Award for Innovation in Anesthesia Education – Education Research
  • Philip Liu Award for Innovation in Anesthesia Education – Innovation in Curriculum

The author(s) of the top scoring abstract in each category submitted by a member of SEA or sponsored by a SEA member will be awarded a “Philip Liu Award for Innovations in Anesthesia Education” and will be provided with:

  • A $1,000 cash award
  • An opportunity to present their data in an oral presentation at the SEA Spring Meeting
  • Plaque/Trophy
