I. The elements inherent in Patient Care in
Anesthesiology include the ability to:
 | Reliably perform a preoperative evaluation (including
history, physical exam and special investigations) for
the patient undergoing surgery. |
 | Perform preoperative consultations for seriously ill
patients undergoing surgery. |
 | Interpret laboratory tests and imaging studies, and
relate the data to surgical and anesthesia risk. |
 | Interpret and use medical specialty consultations in
the care of complex patients. |
 | Use information technology to support patient care
decisions. |
 | List medical problems, in order of priority, and
formulate an anesthetic plan tailored to the needs of
the individual patient. |
 | Counsel and educate patient and families as to the
procedures, risks and benefits of anesthesia care. |
 | Manage co-existingant medical disease pre-, intra-,
and post-operatively. |
 | Select, apply, and consider the efficacy and accuracy
of monitoring techniques. |
 | Execute the anesthetic plan in a facile,
well-prepared, and skilled manner, including induction,
maintenance and emergence from anesthesia of medically
simple and complex cases undergoing simple and complex
surgical procedures. . |
 | Recognize and respond to significant changes in the
patient’s condition. |
 | Exercise independent judgement in the management of
patients undergoing surgery and anesthesia. |
 | Manage induction, maintenance and emergence from
anesthesia of medically complex cases undergoing simple
and complex surgical procedures. |
 | Perform basic and more advanced procedures: including:
airway management, peripheral and central lines,
arterial catheters, spinal, epidural, regional, and
peripheral nerve blocks. |
 | Order and manage postoperative analgesia. |
 | Participate in the management of Chronic Pain |
 | Practice Critical Care Medicine |
